Maker Challenge #2 Save the Eggstronaut

Your Egg astronaut is trapped on the International Space Station! You need to help it come back safely to Earth. Build a spacecraft and try to land the poor Eggstronaut safely without breaking it. Unleash your creativity and challenge your friends or family! Whose egg will survive the landing?

Explore and Build

Eggs are more than simply an ingredient in a recipe. Their fragility makes them ideal for science experiments too.

follow these steps:

  1. Create your Eggstronaut by decorating a raw egg and making it look like an astronaut.
  2. Choose the materials that you want to use for the spacecraft. Design it carefully so that it protects the egg from cracking. We suggest that you carry out some research on egg drop challenges for inspiration! Hint! You may need some of these items: bin bags or plastic bags, newspapers, leaflets or magazines, string, tape, scissors, packing material such as bubble wrap, rubber bands, recycled materials such as yogurt cups, milk cartons, cardboard, and bottles.
  3. Test the spacecraft without the egg inside.
  4. Place your Eggstronaut in your spacecraft and go up on the roof or a high place in your home – Adult Supervision is required for this part.
  5. Drop the spacecraft.

Did the Eggstronaut crack or survive the landing?

October Monthly Maker Challenge

  • Your task for October is to design a project that can safely land an egg from a minimum height of 15 feet.
  • Adult supervision is mandatory before conducting any tests at elevated locations.
  • For the final testing, which you will submit, use a raw egg.
  • Complete wrapping of the egg is not allowed.
  • There are no restrictions on the materials you can use. Feel free to choose what you believe will work best.

How to Make a video for this challenge?

  • Make a video that’s 2 to 3 minutes long (but not more than 3 minutes).
  • Start by introducing yourself. Say your name and a bit about yourself.
  • Next, talk about your project. Explain what it is and why you made it.
  • Show us your project in action. Let us see how it works. When creating a video, make sure to include a clip of your egg landing and document the condition of the egg after landing.
  • Then, explain how you put it all together. Tell us the steps you took.
  • Lastly, share what you learned from doing this challenge. What did you discover?
  • You can use any video editing application like CapCut, etc., for the video-making process.

How to write a document?

For the document, you can download the provided document template and fill in the requested information. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1QpYIOUxfTwV6m32E5osA8Qzv7Ia8n3-7v09lvTnQxTs/

Note: The submission form will be shared on the WhatsApp groups of STEM Pakistan registered schools and the PSC open challenge.
