How to Make Can Car using Simple Household Material

Can car making and its competition are quite popular in kids and teens due to ease and learning of different mechanical aspects of it. The hands-on activity explains the working and applications of various simple Household things in an interesting way. It also helps the students to learn regarding the inter conversion of energies from one form to another form.

Material required for making of can car

  • 2 empty soft drink cans
  • 2 Kabab sticks / round sticks
  • DC motor
  • Small pulley
  • Rubber band
  • 2 AA battery cell with holder
  • Cardboard
  • Connecting wire
  • Switch
  • Pen, scale and compass

Tools required

  • Scissor
  • Hot glue gun
  • Soldering iron
  • Cutter knife

Steps of making Can car

Mark 16 cm length and 22 cm as width for the base of car.

Along the width, mark slits on each side length wise that is 6 cm long and 1 cm wide.

Cut the base with the help of scissor along the marks.

 

Make a hole in the bottom and top of can with scissor or a nail (be careful while doing it so you must not hurt yourself).

Trace the circular base of can on cardboard and cut two circles of it, stick them to the upper part of the can with the help of hot glue. Make the hole in the center.

Note that the holes must be aligned and pass the kabab stick / round stick through them.

Put a rubber band into of the one stick and by using hot glue, join the end of sticks to the base.

Design side walls of the car on cardboard, cut them and stick on the base.

Stick pulley on the shaft of DC motor and sold the wires on its terminal, join the motor to the base with the help of hot glue (note that the pulley must be aligned to the rubber band).

Stick piece of cardboard on the upper side for support.

Fix battery cell into the battery holder, attach it to the base and make its connection with the motor and switch.

Stick the switch on the base or side of car (as we have attached it on the separate piece at the top).

The electric can car is now ready,
