Van De Graaff Generator

In this post, you will learn how to make simple and small van de Graaff generator with PVC pipe and 6-volt dc gear motor. Its very simple and the components are easily available in the hardware store. Van de Graaff generator is also known as a particle accelerator. It uses a moving belt to accumulate and transfer the charges on the hollow metal cylinder. It creates a high potential difference (volts) by static charges and hence ionizes the air around. It is used to study collision experiments in physics and fun science experiments in schools activity.

Required components

2 Steel Ball (size 2 Inch, 4 Inch)
Gear Motor
Car Tyre
Electric Tape
2 PVC Pipe (8 Inch, Diameter 1/2)
1 PVC Pipe (4 Inch, Diameter 1/4)
1 PVC Pipe (4 Inch, Diameter 1/2)
2 PVC Pipe (2.5 Inch, Diameter 1/2)
2 PVC Pipe (2 Inch, Diameter 1/2)
1 PVC Pipe (1 Inch, Diameter 1/2)
2 PVC T Joints
2 PVC Elbow
1 PVC Pipe Cape
Aluminium Tape

Construction:

Make a hole in 4 inch pvc pipe to drill machine, hole size half diameter. — Make a hole in 4-inch PVC pipe with drill machine, hole size is half an inch.

8 inch pvc pipe cross in hole. — 8-inch PVC pipe pass-through hole.

Joint T with 8 inch pipe — attache T joint with 8-inch pipe.

Joint 1 inch pipe with small pipe — attache a 1 inch pipe with T.

Pvc elbow joint with small pipe — Pvc elbow joint with a small pipe.

Joint 4 inch pvc pipe to elbow. — Joint 4 inch PVC pipe to the elbow.

Joint elbow with 4 inch pipe. — Joint elbow with 4-inch pipe.

Joint T with small pipe. — Joint T with a small pipe.

Joint pipe with both side for stand — Joint pipe with both side for the stand.

Gear motor fix with T — Gear motor fix in T joint.

Tyre rim pull off, then aluminium tape rolling on tyre and fit with gear motor. — Aluminium tape rolling on the tyre and fit with a gear motor.

Make a belt with electric tape. — Make a belt with electric tape

Belt align on gear motor tyre to top on adjustable pipe. — Align the Belt on gear motor and PVC pipe

Make a storing electricity ball, pvc pipe cape joint with 4 inch steel ball by the help of nut bolt. — PVC pipe cape attach with 4-inch steel ball and wire by the help of nut bolt.

Storing electricity ball joint with frame and wire touch the belt. — Ball attach with frame and wire should be touched the belt to collact positive charge.

2 inch small steel ball and single wire joint with 8 inch pvc pipe. — 2-inch small steel ball and single wire joint with 8-inch PVC pipe.

Single wire touch with aluminium roll tyre for store negative charge. — Single wire should be touched with aluminium for collact negative charge.
