Recycled Plastic Bottle Solar Water Heater DIY Project
Recycled plastic bottle solar water heater is an effective and zero fuel consumption way to heat the water for domestic purposes. It can be made by following easy steps and using simple recycle material and can fulfill the need of an average house.
Material required for making of Recycled Plastic Bottle Solar Water Heater
- 1.5 liter transparent soft drink bottles
- Wood for making of frame
- Aluminum pipe
- Rubber Gas pipe
- Black paint
- Handsaw and Hacksaw
- Electrical tape
Working
Transparent bottles create green house effect and heat the water flowing in the pipes. The flow rate of water must be adjusted according to the required temperature at the outlet. The flow rate is 0.33 liter/min to raise the temperature of water from 20 Degree Celsius to 60 degree Celsius. The working of the heater depends upon the atmospheric temperature and duration of solar radiation. The optimum output is between 11am to 2pm and the average is 160 liter per day with the average temperature of 45 degree Celsius.
Steps of Construction
Testing bottle with pipe inside
Temperature comparison between open pipe and with bottle
More temperature rise in closed pipe
Another temperature test with reflector paper and black paper which showed Reflector paper works well.
Testing of transparent bottle Vs Black paper
More than 50 bottles are needed to make solar water heater
