Different household materials will be used to understand elastic potential energy and its conversion from one form to another form. The activity will also help students to develop their hands-on skills, design, and construction of the coaster.<\/p>\n<h3>Objectives<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Build a model that stores potential energy and releases kinetic energy.<\/li>\n<li>Explain that energy is not created or destroyed, but rather converted from one form to another.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Material:<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Straw<\/li>\n<li>LED<\/li>\n<li>CD<\/li>\n<li>Coin Battery<\/li>\n<li>Nut<\/li>\n<li>Rubber Band<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Note: Material is Also available on sciencestore.pk <a href=\"https:\/\/sciencestore.pk\/product\/stem-kit-4-0\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow external noreferrer\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">https:\/\/sciencestore.pk\/product\/stem-kit-4-0\/<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-6217\" src=\"https:\/\/paksc.org\/pk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/material-1024x690.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"840\" height=\"566\" srcset=\"https:\/\/paksc.org\/pk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/material-1024x690.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/paksc.org\/pk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/material-300x202.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/paksc.org\/pk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/material-768x518.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/paksc.org\/pk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/material-163x110.jpeg 163w, https:\/\/paksc.org\/pk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/material-370x250.jpeg 370w, https:\/\/paksc.org\/pk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/material-780x526.jpeg 780w, https:\/\/paksc.org\/pk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/material.jpeg 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 840px) 100vw, 840px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>Steps of Construction<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Take 4 straws and make sure they are of equal size, if not then trim the ends to make them equal.<\/li>\n<li>Make approximately 5-6 cuts of 5mm with equal spacing at both ends of straw, repeat it with each straw.<\/li>\n<li>Press those cuts on the outer side of the straw so it will look like a small flower.<\/li>\n<li>Using a hot glue gun, stick those 4 straws to the edge of a CD in plus shape.<\/li>\n<li>Stick the other CD on the opposite side with the glue gun, the straws must be straight and aligned.<\/li>\n<li>Take a popsicle stick and make 2 pieces of 2 inches each.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0With two rubber bands, tie the metal nut tightly at the center as shown below,<\/li>\n<li>Pass one end of the rubber band through-hole of a CD and put the piece of popsicle stick as a stopper.<\/li>\n<li>Repeat the step with the other end and stick both pieces with the glue gun to the CD.<\/li>\n<li>Now glue two coin batteries in the center, one at either CD with the positive side facing upward.<\/li>\n<li>Before playing with your coaster, make sure you attached the LEDs to the battery.<\/li>\n<li>The LEDs should be connected as a positive leg with the positive terminal of the battery and negative with the other side.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Vocabulary:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Potential Energy:<\/strong>\u00a0Stored energy in an object due to its position (i.e. in relation to the ground) or condition (i.e. stretched or compressed in a spring or elastic band).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Kinetic Energy:\u00a0<\/strong>The energy of a moving object.
