2018 stem camp

STEM Camp Overview

Every year Pakistan Science Club (PSC) organizes STEM Summer Science Camp for children and teens during Summer Vacations as to explore nature is an adventure and the young ones are always very curious about new things around. For such creative minds, Pakistan Science Club has been organizing Science Summer camp form the last 9 years which has been an amazing opportunity for hands-on learning experience and an insight to explore the logic behind scientific phenomenon which have been taught in schools. Students get an opportunity to have a range of experiences from conducting biology experiments to create very own robots.

Following the practice, this year PSC arranged Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Summer Camp 2018 (May-June & June-July) at The Lab School, North Nazimabad, the Prestige Academy, PECHS and at Pakistan Science Club with the collaboration of ECO Science Foundation. Approximately 95 students from grade 1st to 10th got enrolled in the summer camp in three groups i.e. Curious Scientists Group (Age 6 to 8 years), Inventors Scientists Group (Age 9 to 11 years) and Robotics (Age 12 to 16 years). Ten full scholarships and six half scholarships were provided by ECO Science Foundation on the Need cum Merit basis to the students of camps.

Two camps were organized at each place i.e. from May to June and from June to July except that of PSC office, in total 5 camps were conducted. The duration of each camp was of 12 days and it last for one month, the classes on each location were scheduled on alternate days of the week and each class duration was of 2 hours.

The activities were helpful in not only explaining the fundamental concepts, laws and their implementation but also in developing the hands-on skills. Students worked individually and in groups as well that made them released the importance of team work and cooperation. Campers with keen interest and zeal took part in camp, participated in making of projects and competed with each other.

Activities Details

The hands-on projects were designed according to the age group of students. They were divided in three age groups, i.e. Curious Scientists Group (Age 6 to 8 years), Inventors Scientists Group (Age 9 to 11 years) and Robotics (Age 12 to 16 years). National Curriculum of General Science 2006 was also followed while selecting the particular Science activities. For the first time, PSC introduced hands-on robotics instead of expensive and ready to make kits. Campers were guided to design their robots from scratch, understanding its various mechanical and electronics aspects, learnt about micro controllers, sensor modules, app development and coding. Young campers made various other exciting projects including basic robots, wind mill and solar powered car to understand and explore about renewable energies and its daily life applications.

Certificate Distribution ceremony
