- Graduate students
This course aims to give participants a deeper understanding of what maker spaces are and how makerspaces can be used in schools to support teaching. This course is also designed to help teachers come up with projects and ideas of which maker space ideas could fit into their school’s curriculum as well as help them to understand which resources they would need to create a low-cost maker space at school.
It is a place where students can learn to use material, tools, design, and create a prototype using their hands-on skills and scientific knowledge. It encourages students to explore, tinker, and build while understanding the integration of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) in everyday life.
Background
Pakistan Science Club has initiated the setup of Maker Space / Tinker lab in schools and colleges realizing the need to establish a center to develop and nourish the technical and hands-on 21st Century skill of the students. As in our educational system, science is limited to books and the traditional labs are not sufficient to gratify the interest and curiosity of students in science. The idea is to provide a platform where all types of basic tools, instruments and technical aid will be provided to the students to work on their ideas, to develop the practical approach, design prototypes using engineering principles, theories, calculations, and techniques.
Objective
The purpose of the Club/maker space is to inculcate interest, ingenuity, and critical thinking in young minds and to develop their hands-on and computational skills. Students will be facilitated to work with basic tools and equipment to comprehend the fundamental concept of STEM (Science, Engineering, Technology, and Math) and its implementation to solve real-life problems and challenges.
Before setting up the Makerspace / Tinker lab see requirement Learning Environment
We design the curriculum of the STEM club which is consist of 3 parts
-
Foundation Stage: Essential skills
- The essential skills stage consist of 7 sessions (Length, Time, Electric Current, Temperature, Luminous Intensity, Mass, Amount of Substance)
-
Elementary stage: Creative Skills
-
Secondary stage: Inventor
